Have a great time in LA and don't worry too much about driving! Driving around here takes a lot of patience as someone mentioned before, but it's easy to drive and navigate around. Signs are well all marked and once you get a hang of it, it's pretty easy to drive around the freeways. I think you shouldn't have a problem driving around. I guess LA has become more and more crowded, and it is evident with so much construction of new buildings and homes going on all over town, that the city and neighboring communities are still growing. This weekend has been really bad too, no matter what freeway we took, the 210, the 405, the 5, the 101, 110 were all bad. Sometimes, the speeds are better on this lane. If you have at least 2 people in the car, take the carpool lane on the left hand side of the freeway. And then again traffic begins in the afternoon from 3pm until up to 7pm on a working day(traffic lasts until 8pm on some freeways on a Friday). I've noticed between 10ish am - 11 am, traffic moves better on a M-F. Rush hour can start as early as 5:30am and lasts until as late as 10am in the morning. Road closures may also be the reason why this is a problem, because of the rain we've had lately. We were out all weekend and noticed too many cars on the road. Today and yesterday we encountered traffic all over, both Saturday and Sunday.

To be honest with you, there seems to be traffic in LA everyday now.
